Yet another flaming hyena update.

President Donald Trump pardoned Texas Democratic Rep. Henry Cuellar and his wife in a federal bribery and conspiracy case on Wednesday, citing what he called a “weaponized” justice system.

Previously on WCD.

Federal authorities had charged Cuellar and his wife with accepting thousands of dollars in exchange for the congressman advancing the interests of an Azerbaijan-controlled energy company and a bank in Mexico. Cuellar is accused of agreeing to influence legislation favorable to Azerbaijan and deliver a pro-Azerbaijan speech on the floor of the U.S. House.

I wish that Trump didn’t really do this, and that it was an auto pen. At least then I could pretend that he was not aware of this pardon.
While I don’t know all about this case, I know enough that I feel that I have the right to an opinion. That opinion is that while the crimes here are pretty much SOP in Washington, they still should be punished.
I just read a meme that said that killing a fly with a huge hammer is not about killing the fly, but really about letting all the rest of the flies see it.

Trump’s pardons are starting to disturb me, too.

The other day, as Lawrence notes in this week’s Linkswarm, Trump pardoned a guy on bribery charges. The guy was indicted by Trump’s DOJ in July, and hadn’t even gone to trial yet.

I don’t want to believe the worst, but a lot of these decisions just puzzle me.
