Lawrence was trying to convince me yesterday that we should watch “Gremlins 2: The New Batch”. I countered with “Thunder In Paradise”, which appears to be available on DVD as three movies cut together from episodes of the TV show. (See also: “The Master“.)

And “Suburban Commando” is, arguably, a genre film.
I saw Chuck Mangione’s passing with a bit of sadness. His music was pretty much the only jazz that was played on the radio when I was in high school.
I don’t know if I have mentioned it here, but I went to a jazz clinic where his sax player, Chris Vadala was presenting one of the clinics. I got to meet him, and pick his brain for a short time. That was one of the most educational times in music that I have experienced.
The other one was when my high school jazz band went and saw Woody Herman and the Thundering Herd, at another high school. They had a clinic and then an evening concert. I picked up a lot of things at that one, the best one was from one of the veteran sax players. He spoke of not just playing the notes, but of actually feeling the mood, in a manner of speaking.
Of course he explained more than that but that is the best way to make it short and sweet. I hope you get your blog figured out. Have a great weekend.
