Firings watch.

Jack Del Rio out as defensive coordinator of the Washington NFL team.

The Commanders’ defense ranks last in points allowed and 29th in yards allowed — one year after ranking seventh and third, respectively, in those categories. The Commanders consistently gave up big plays and failed to make many of their own.
Washington has allowed a league-high 49 pass plays of 20 yards or more. The Commanders haven’t intercepted a pass in the past six games or caused a turnover in the past three.

Washington lost 45-10 to Dallas yesterday, is 4-8 this season, has lost three games in a row and eight out of the last 10.

Detroit lost to the Packers yesterday. I saw some people are ready to write them off, saying that they won’t win another game all year. No patience for those types.
Jack Del Rio was always a great player. That doesn’t mean he is a great coach. But a coach can’t play and as they say you can’t make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear. For a team to go from among the top to among the worst in just one year seems to be not that hard to do, anymore. That tells me that there is parity in the league, not that they have a bad coach. But the Commanders have to start where they can, and it is easy to fire a coach, while you can’t really just fire the entire defense.
