Obit watch: November 4, 2022.

Andrew Prine, actor.

Interesting set of credits. Quite a few Westerns, and quite a few cop/law shows: “The F.B.I.”, “Banacek”, “Quincy M.E.”, the good “Hawaii Five-O”.

Also: “Kolchak: The Night Stalker” and “Barbary Coast”.

I just saw that former NFL punter and NFL Hall of Famer Ray Guy has died. Everything that I ever heard about him was always positive. It seems that he was a great person, and a decent man.
The blurb that I read said that he died of the same condition at age 72 that he had been suffering from for quite some time, so it could have been many different things. I believe that he was the first punter enshrined into the Hall of Fame. And another one of my memories of my youth passes. Andrew Prine is another. He was a staple of many tv dramas and westerns.

I believe you are right about Ray Guy being the first punter in the HoF.

And not to throw any shade on Mr. Guy (I agree with you, he sounds like a good person), but: why isn’t Tom Dempsey in the Hall of Fame?

(I’ve been to the world famous Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio. It’s a big place. There’s plenty of room.)

That’s easy, why isn’t Tom Dempsey in the HoF. His kick to set the long standing record for the longest kick that lasted for eons, came against my Detroit Lions. Disqualified right there. Actually with a partially deformed foot, against that kind of handicap, he deserves to be included. I know that Halls of Fame are often nothing more than a popularity contest, but I agree, Dempsey should have been a shoe in, pun intended.
I have a friend whose son was kicking 40 yard field goals in high school. I thought that he might consider trying out for a college spot, but he was also a pretty intelligent kid, so I am not certain what he ended up doing, but I know that he did well in college and got a very well paying job of some sort.
