{"id":3212,"date":"2010-12-03T13:12:53","date_gmt":"2010-12-03T19:12:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.sportsfirings.com\/?p=3212"},"modified":"2010-12-03T13:15:33","modified_gmt":"2010-12-03T19:15:33","slug":"a-little-sentiment-a-little-advice","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.sportsfirings.com\/?p=3212","title":{"rendered":"A little sentiment, a little advice&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ken over at Popehat has a good post up about his <a href=\"http:\/\/www.popehat.com\/2010\/12\/03\/and-now-a-moment-of-paternalistic-sentimentality\/\">advice to a young lawyer arguing his first case<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Reading over it, it struck me that his advice could be pretty well generalized for everyone, not just lawyers:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Don&#8217;t think about being the best, think about being the <strong>best prepared<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>(Quoted directly from Ken): &#8220;Stand straight, speak clearly and firmly and unapologetically, and act  like you deserve to be there \u2014 because you do.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;I don&#8217;t know,&#8221; is never an acceptable answer. &#8220;I don&#8217;t know, <strong>but <\/strong>I <strong>will<\/strong> find out&#8221; is.<\/li>\n<li>When you&#8217;re trying to persuade people of something, you have to believe in something.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Add <a href=\"http:\/\/wilwheaton.typepad.com\/wwdnbackup\/2010\/03\/how-one-redditor-found-happiness-this-is-just-wonderful.html\">Wheaton&#8217;s Rule<\/a> to that list, and it strikes me as being a pretty good way to lead your life.
