Good luck with that.<\/li>\n<li>Missed this until <a href=\"http:\/\/www.battleswarmblog.com\/?p=18794\">Lawrence mentioned it<\/a>, but: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.collegemediamatters.com\/2013\/10\/21\/grambling-state-fires-student-newspapers-online-editor-suspends-opinions-editor-over-football-mess\/\">the suspension of the Grambling college paper&#8217;s opinion editor has been overturned<\/a>. And <a href=\"http:\/\/www.collegemediamatters.com\/2013\/10\/21\/grambling-state-fires-student-newspapers-online-editor-suspends-opinions-editor-over-football-mess\/\">the termination of the online editor has been changed to a suspension, but he&#8217;s resigning<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/espn.go.com\/college-sports\/story\/_\/id\/9861775\/miami-hurricanes-avoid-bowl-ban-lose-nine-scholarships-part-ncaa-sanctions\">Miami loses scholarships, but does not get a postseason ban<\/a>. I mention this here for one sentence in the ESPN story: &#8220;But about 20 percent of information that was obtained was thrown out because it was improperly obtained.&#8221; What ESPN is glossing over here is that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsfirings.com\/?p=9160\">the NCAA made a <strong>huge<\/strong> mess of the investigation<\/a>, and that&#8217;s probably why Miami got off light compared to USC. (Edited to add: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2013\/10\/23\/sports\/miami-avoids-further-bowl-ban-in-ncaa-penalties.html?ref=todayspaper\">better story from the <strong>NYT<\/strong><\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>TMQ tends to hammer on teams that &#8220;run up the score&#8221; against weaker opponents. In that light (and because it&#8217;s a good post) I want to highlight Ken&#8217;s &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.popehat.com\/2013\/10\/23\/what-does-mercy-look-like\/\">What Does Mercy Look Like?<\/a>&#8221; over at Popehat. (To be fair to TMQ, in the specific case that motivated Ken&#8217;s post, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/EasterbrookG\/status\/392724060515229696\">Easterbrook has not complained about the conduct of the team and coach<\/a>.)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Jackson State is apparently considering suing Grambling.
