Nice going there, Butch.

UNC-Chapel Hill football coach Butch Davis out in the wake of a NCAA investigation.

Davis, 59, had an overall record of 28-23 with three bowl appearances in four seasons, but he steered UNC into what he said earlier this week was the most serious issue the school has faced in decades. A school with a strong track record of rules compliance saw 14 players miss at least one game and seven sit out the entire 2010 season in connection with the NCAA investigation into impermissible benefits given to players and into academic misconduct.

Don’t feel too sorry for him. He got to keep his millions in salary not only from this job, but also for the one he had coaching the Cleveland Browns. He should probably just go to work for McDonalds now.

I don’t feel sorry for him at all. I’ve often said I’d be happy to coach a college football team for one year for what these guys make; as Gregg Easterbrook says, a trained monkey could probably go 6-6 coaching a major program, and I’d be happy to retire at the end of the season and roll around on my enormous pile of cash.
