I totally missed the “comparable role, configuration, and era” section at the bottom of the Magister entry.

I think what may have been irritating me, now that I know those are L-29s, is that I swear I’ve run across the L-29 before. It may have been in a discussion with one of my friends, or there may have been an Air and Space article about the L-29, or both, or neither…

(Trade-A-Plane has one listed for sale for a mere $45,000. That’s not too bad…)

No. I clicked your link for the ‘Magister” thought yeah, that’s close except for the tail, the wingtip tanks, the intakes are a little off and maybe the nose gear isn’t right.

But hell, maybe the French had a mod 2 with a T-tail or something. Then I thought ‘hey wiki airplane nuts usually include a ‘Aircraft of comparable role, configuration and era’ section and sure enough, there she was.

Award yourself bonus points. Masister came first, and I’ll bet you a buck the dirty commie Czechs ‘borrowed’ from that design for the Delfin.

The Waterston character was the one who kept telling himself jokes as a he climbed the mesa, only to find the helicopter waiting for him at the top.

Hell, I paid money to see it in the original theatrical release.

(Okay, actually, I was 12 at the time, so it would be more correct to say “somebody else paid money for me to see it in the original theatrical release”.)

But that was long enough ago that I don’t remember the “Peter Willis” character. I remember O.J., and I remember James Brolin (especially at the end of the movie) but Waterston is just a total blank spot in my mind.

Maybe I should rent it…

(Also interesting: there were two novelizations. Ron Goulart did the one that was published in the US, while Ken “Pillars of the Earth” Follett wrote the UK one under a pseudonym. I’d actually like to lay my hands on a copy of the UK one if it isn’t obscenely priced.)

In spite of OJ being in it, rent Capricorn One.
